Chief, Pediatric Optometrist, Kids Eye Care of Maryland

Dr. Cheng serves as our Chief of Pediatric Optometry. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with honors from the University of Maryland, College Park, followed by his Doctor of Optometry from Southern California College of Optometry. He then completed specialized residency training in Pediatric Optometry at the SUNY College of Optometry.

Prior to joining our team, Dr. Cheng was an attending optometrist and clinical instructor at Woodhull Medical Center (affiliated with NYU Langone), where he trained and supervised optometry students and residents in pediatric care.

His clinical expertise includes the diagnosis and management of strabismus (eye misalignment), amblyopia (lazy eye), ocular manifestations of systemic disorders, and pediatric myopia control. Dr. Cheng is a leading expert in fitting MiSight® 1-day soft contact lenses—the first FDA-approved contact lenses proven to slow the progression of myopia in children.

Raised in Salisbury, MD, Dr. Cheng now resides in Rockville with his wife and son. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and conversational in Spanish. Outside the clinic, he enjoys traveling with his family, playing basketball, exploring new hiking and biking trails, and cooking.
