Strabismus Surgery Corrects Eye Alignment – Safe For Children and Adults
Strabismus (misaligned eyes) can be corrected at any age. A quick outpatient eye-muscle surgery or targeted treatment from our expert surgeons can restore alignment and it’s almost always covered by insurance.
At Kids Eye Care of Maryland, we have a team of eight pediatric eye doctors dedicated to children’s eye health, vision, and eye alignment. Among them, our expert eye muscle surgeons have each received advanced training in strabismus at top institutions:
- Stephen R. Glaser, MD (Northwestern University, Chicago, IL)
- Jenifer A. Aventuro Luck, MD (Georgetown University, Washington, DC)
- Tara J. Guretzky, MD (Washington University, St. Louis, MO)
- Jay M. Rosin, MD, MPH (Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat, New York, NY)
- Caroline Hill Cromelin, MD (Emory University, Atlanta, GA)
Unlike large teaching hospitals, your care and surgery are performed only by board-certified, highly experienced surgeons — never trainees. Procedures can be scheduled at either a hospital or an ambulatory surgery center for your convenience.
Because eye-muscle surgery works on the muscles outside the eye – not inside the eyeball – it has an excellent safety record, involves no skin incision (no external scar), and usually has a short recovery. Most children return to school within days.
Our goals are the best possible eye alignment, comfortable single binocular vision, depth perception, relief from double vision, expanded field of vision when applicable, and meaningful improvements in daily function and quality of life.
With 25+ years of focus on strabismus at Kids Eye Care of Maryland, we tailor care to each patient. Sometimes the right glasses or targeted therapy are all that’s needed. When surgery is recommended, you’ll be in the hands of surgeons who perform this procedure every day.
If you know a child or adult whose eyes do not appear aligned, please let them know that safe, effective treatment is available — even in adulthood — and we are here to help!
